My name is Isaac. I remember one day when I was just about 12 yrs old, I had to take the wheel barrow to the river to fetch water since we had none left at home. My dad was sick that day, and no one else was at home except for my sister who was ten and my dad who was sick. My sister opted to come with me, even though she was just 10 yrs old. It took us about half a day, considering we did not live so far away from the river. The whole time I could not stop worrying about my sick dad back at the house. This is the predicament that the children of this community find themselves in today. As a result, children end up not going to school. Many grow up sickly due to the dirty water at the river and the long tedious work of trying to get daily water. We later moved to Nanyuki town where we had access to the Nanyuki municipal town water supply. Many families with children are not able to move to better locations like my family did. It is for this reason that I am going back to the very place I grew up in a bid to bring cleaner, much needed, water closer to the people. It is our hope that kids will have time to go to school rather than spend all day looking for water.
